It’s a well written book for the novice such as myself. However, in some cases, the author assumes a certain level of knowledge, at which level I’m not. What keeps me from rating it a 5 is a couple of footnotes defining some terms. Nevertheless, I am learning and enjoying it.

Material is invaluable, the edition not so great but anyway... I imagined fully bright and colourful pages showing graphs and charts with tips, specially by it's price. Looks more like a photocopy set of a rough script. But I repeat the content is what matters.

It's an essential book, but I don't find it specially bright enough in some aspects that Owsinski touches, i.e. the arrangement, he states his personal view and seems to differ from serious books speaking about structure and arrangement. It's good if you start from scratch to get to know basic stuff about type of reverbs, how a compressor/gate works, which are the basic 6 elements of a good mix, or the history of mixing, studios, etc.Specially oriented for the classic mixing engineer. If you are a modern mixing aspirant for styles like electronic music or hip hop you will find it too old dated in techniques. Although, the info shared in this book is basic and important but not essential in my opinion. It's good to start from the bottom if you like that way to do the things, but if you practically want to learn directly the technical stuff, I know much better options to read. Buy this book if you want to know about classic engineer's and a bit of history of all since half of the book are interviews. I would read it again if you ask me, but I know there could be a much better and complete book in the field, cutting some information and adding practical and modern techniques.

A few months ago, I thought mixing was mostly a matter of adjusting volume levels on each instrument or vocal. After recording a couple of my songs, I quickly realized that there's way more to it. I'm slowly learning....the mixes are getting better...and this book has been a huge help.

Fantastic resource, part 2 is AWESOME hearing from the best mixing engineers in history. The real guys who did the Beatles, Stones, Floyd, Elton John, MJ, Steely Dan... the list goes on. Filled with gems. Can't wait to read his book on mastering now!

There are so many authors, blogs, videos etc. on mixing out there. Sometimes the different suggestions you get are confusing or contradictory to each other. I have decided to follow one line of advice from now on, i.e. Bobbby Owsinski, his books and his online courses. Bobby has been an author in this field for many years and to me seems to be the most experienced.

Wow, this is a wonderful book that was recommended to us by our couples therapist. Since purchasing it, my boyfriend and I have read about half of it. There are some profound chapters in the book that have caused us to really evaluate and look at how we had been doing our relationship. My boyfriend has completely changed his career as a result of the book. This book is invaluable in terms of understanding and working on your relationship and loving your partner.

This book will not change the fact the the earth is a cold, lonely rock hurtling through an otherwise lifeless galaxy. Your existence is temporary and meaningless. Instead of purchasing this book, you should break free of your relationship chains and spend that money going on a regrettable one-night-stand. At least your regret is real while it lasts.

Stan's work and contribution to the field of couples therapy and psychology is truly ground breaking. It really raises the bar by incorporating the most modern discoveries of our brain and neuroscience with how we respond to being in a couple. We couple to feel good and feel safe. Stan's work shows us how different parts of our brain respond and how our brains are more sensitive to perceive threat than we are kindness. This knowledge can also help you to avoid making your partner feel poorly. The neuroscience is explained in a friendly way that everyone can follow and its incorporated with attachment theory concepts which are also a more modern knowledge base at the way we bond and couple. If you are hoping to understand how people create a safe, secure and loving lifetime relationship this book provides that knowledge. I would personally throw away any relationship guide written before this work or not incorporating the concepts that this work covers. This is the new and most accurate way to look at coupling.

I was told to buy this book while I was in couple counseling with my boyfriend. We did end of breaking up, and this book actually helped me see why we dealing with the issues in our relationship. We are wired very differently for love. I then re-read it, after the break up, to see how I can love myself, heal and move on.

I enjoyed it. I do think it really requires a committed couple to do the exercises. I know it sounds elementary however, there is usually one person who is more invested in making the relationship work. A good read.

Quick read with some solid information. You have to make it through the beginning of the book and the short stories to get to the most helpful information - so don't give up. A little simplistically written and some of the anecdotes feel extraneous. Overall, defines the principles of personality type and background well later in the book and a good couples read that doesn't create finger pointing or take too much time.

As a therapist, I found this book very helpful in understanding the need for couples to bond completely in order to keep their relationship alive. Tatkin bases his research on premises that include current research on marital therapy as well as on neuropsychology.He provides ten basic premises for maintaining a good marriage. He speaks often of the 'couple bubble'. This is a way for couples to put one another first, to keep themselves a priority for one another in spite of all the influx of information and experiences that come their way. Couples need to form a bubble, a safe place where they are available to one another 24/7 and they attempt to fulfill their partner's needs in any way they can. It goes both ways and it is a protective device.I also liked his analogy of 'ambassadors' and 'primitives'. Ambassadors are the rational aspects of our brain that steer our relationship. The primitives are the more basic aspects of survival that most of us have been programmed for as children. It is more of a 'fight or flight' component that each of us has. There needs to be an understanding in ourselves of these two components of our brain and, more importantly, depending on our upbringing, we may need to work on understanding what makes our partner tick.The book is accessible to anyone, therapist or layman. The information is very helpful and can be used by any married couple. Therapists will be pleased to see that Tatkin quotes the most recent research and incorporates it in his book. I found this book very intuitive and have used his suggestions in the therapy I already do. However, I have picked up some new ideas that I will surely incorporate in the future.

I love this book and have bought copies to share with my family and friends. I had a couple bubble with a past boyfriend and it was like I was on cloud 9. My fiance is an island (dismissive avoidant) and is skeptical of the idea but I feel like this book will help aid us in creating our own couple bubble. The book provides an excellent explanation of what a couple bubble is, why it is so important for a healthy relationship, and practical advice for how to create your own. I wish it we're mandatory book for everyone to read in highschool or college.

Elixir in Action uses Elixir 1.0.x, Erlang 17.x while the current versions are Elixir 1.6.3 and Erlang/OTP 20.This requirement gets stated on page 20 on the first page of chapter 2 - NOT in an obvious location.For a book dated 2015, this is unpardonable. I spent some time working on some advancedmaterial and encountering strange "errors" due to this "oversight" on my part. I didn't start a seriousattempt find the solution until I tried to run the code downloaded from the Manning site.I would be interested in reviewing a more up-to-date version of this book.Other than that, a beginner may find material worth learning, but there are better books out there.

Wow this book is awesome. The author gives a gentle but concise tour through the language features. This is by no means an introduction to FP or Programming, it is oriented towards experienced programmers. After 8 years of programming professionally in Python and Java I find Elixir a breath of modern and fresh coding. This books boost the fun of learning it. Highly recommended.

This reads like a story and I love it. Usually technical books will just have example after example of large pieces of code and not cover small portions of crucial context. This book hits into that context very well and gets deep into the workings of Elixir. I recommend for any Elixir programmer as a first book.

A good book for experienced programmers who want to learn more about Elixir. There are some topics in the book that have since been deprecated like HashDict but overall the material is still good.

This is a great book. As I follow along, I feel that I understand how to write elixir applications.

totally worth the read

Although many aspects of Elixir are dealt with, several times in every chapter you'll read that something was important enough to mention but "not worth writing about ... go somewhere else to learn about it". This book isn't useful to really gain an in-depth understanding of the language.

In recent years I witness an explosion in at least the interest in Functional Programming languages and a possible (hard to measure) spur in their use. In my view, they are worth exploring. Perhaps more than worth, a must. Since each FP language was built to tackle a specific purpose naturally, every one has its own niche applications, many strong and a several weak points. Erlang is one of them. In short, and to the point - Erlang's syntax is notoriously hard. Elixir was created where Erlang was left off - tackling the syntax and tooling woes. Also Elixir feels like an extension to Erlang. But allows a dramatic boost to productivity of a developer. Speaking of the developer, written by a programmer to a programmer who is Saša Jurić makes it a win-win for anyone embracing Functional Programming and not only Elixir. This book is probably the gentlest introduction to Elixir and the Functional Programming altogether. It walks you through the very basics and not so intricacies of Elixir towards building the real world project. Step by step, with tasteful, even timely repetitions of what you learned in the past chapters so you do not need to frantically go in reverse in the book flipping pages or Ctrl-Fing. The book has a wast number of code samples, neat annotations and a through index (*important for those using books).In terms of my closing words, a very worth your reading material, the Elixir online community is also strong and growing, I am watching how it all unfolds, in the meanwhile it is a 5 out 5. Another good book from Manning. Also thanks to Saša Jurić.

I can't begin to say now awesome this book was, and how much I so needed to read such a story as this!! Everything I've gone through myself in my past relationships, I wasn't sure if the Lord could still write a love story for me. Now I know without a doubt, that He can and He will, thanks to Cheryl sharing her true story how God did just that for her! She allowed Him to take control, and the result was absolutely amazing and inspiring! Men, you also would do well to read this book, especially thanks to Chris, Cheryl's husband giving very sound advice on how to prayerfully pursue the right woman God wants you to have in your life. I myself am now excited to see what God does this coming year in my life...waiting on Him no longer will be a chore, but a privilege, and I know that the end results will be exactly the way God always wanted it to be for me. Read, pray, get inspired from Cheryl's story, and get ready to see what God will do in your life, as you wait on Him to write our your own love story!

i've only read 3 chapters so far and they were spot on. they were exactly my feelings in areas. they were not eye opening revelations. it's stuff i have heard/read before but she has lived it. a lot of people who teach on marriage and singleness are not p[over 35yrs old and still waiting for a spouse. she was funny and open and honest. i really loved the chapter that her husband wrote. but i started with Chapter Four: I Must Be Defective then i skipped to Ch. 17 his finally where her husband talks about his journey of waiting- must read ladies and gents, then i read the first chapter. i might up it to 5 starts after i finish reading it. but i was so encouraged by this book.i finished it and wow the pitfalls she endures. love her honesty. love her repeated statements to PRAY, PRAY, and PRAY.first pray to see if it's god's will for you to even be married. then pray to surrender to his will. then pray for guidance EVERY step o f the way, every relationship, every friendship,, .etc.basically unless you have a close relationship with God, pray a lot, and know the Word you can't mimic her journey.great book!

I have read a LOT of relationship books over the years and I have found the most comfort in those books written from a Christian perspective. Let's face it: because times have changed there are lots of women (and men!) who just can't seem to meet the right person. If you are a God-fearing, church going, sold-out for Christ, Bible-reading, Rosary-praying, no-sex-outside-of-marriage committed Christian (whew!) it ain't easy. It isn't IMPOSSIBLE but it isn't easy. I have intermittently given up over the years but then something pulls me back from the abyss. Oddly enough, I had just finished my quiet time with God when I went onto Amazon.com because I was thinking about getting another book--not a how-to book on dating or finding a man or anything like that. Rather, I was looking for a book about WAITING. After all, that's the season I'm in and have been in for a while. I was seriously considering purchasing two other books when this book showed up in my visual field. It was FREE and it had amazing reviews. Nuff said. I downloaded the book on Friday night. But Sunday afternoon, I was finished.What an amazingly true account of what it's like to be a single Christian woman who feels totally forgotten by everyone, even God on occasion. The author was extremely candid and shared her personal struggles. I could definitely relate to her dialogue with God. In the end, the author met the man God was preparing for her. The book ends with her husband sharing his *own* struggles as a single Christian man also in a prolonged waiting phase. He describes his emotional journery during their courtship and what God revealed to him along the way.I say this book changed my life because I believe this was a message from God to me. The author talks a lot about "signs" in the book. I don't expect much in the way of signs from God, but I do think He speaks to us in subtle ways. This book gave me a renewed sense of hope. No, there's no magic answer to this whole relationship thing, but I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that God is involved in the process of who our spouse should be and if we "surrender the pen" as the author says countless times, God will write a beautiful love story. I don't know about you, but I'm a hopeless romantic and God is probably the biggest Romantic there ever was. I only wish I had a local group of Christian women to discuss this with because it is SO rich. So for anyone in a waiting season and struggling, check this book out and consider surrendering this area of your life. Yes, it is scary. And there's a little doubt in the back of your mind that it will ever really happen. Just keep speaking the Word over your barren situation and believe. Don't forget to thank God for what He's doing. Remember, when you sow a seed, a lot is happening under the surface that you can't see with your naked eye.

This book reads like a journal at parts, as well as your standard relationship book. It's comic and yet has deep spiritual truths and encouragement. It was written very authentically and I'm glad the author's willingness to share so much that was happening in her life while she wrote, was rewarded with being able to share such a detailed story of God's answer and provision in response to her prayers.I have a lot of books about relationships from various angles, topics and issues. Though the highly personal aspects does set it apart, I probably did not glean any information I didn't know before in some manner. What's different about this book is that it's really rare, in my experience, to have an author who will write directly and bravely out of the experience of being a Spirit-filled believer, i.e. one who knows that all the gifts of the Spirit are real and active today and embraces them. The written word of God in the bible is the foremost and main thing of course; but, as someone who has also experienced prophetic words, dreams, and other external confirmations through other believers, it was nice to see this reflected in a book. There are lots of us out there and it's nice to be able to relate.
