About the Author
Both Shana (Tulane) and Henry (Indiana Bloomington) made law review based on their first-year grades and graduated in the top three percent of their respective classes. They both earned judicial clerkships with federal appellate judges and went on to join a prominent law firm. While in law school, Shana worked as consultant to Julia Roberts and director Alan J. Pakula on the film The Pelican Brief. After becoming a partner with one of California s oldest law firms, Pillsbury Madison & Sutro LLP (now Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP), Henry joined the faculty of Chapman University School of Law in Orange, California, in 2005. Shana writes full time.

I'm starting law school in the fall so I've been reading up on what's in store for me. Acing was a great first read because it told me not only what's in store, but also how to approach it all. Chapter 2 was pretty cool because it showed how to brief a case and gave an example. Chapters 4 and 5, about legal citation and research, aren't really worth reading until you're actually at law school and have an assignment. Another thing I like about the book is that the authors try hard to ease anxiety that you feel as a 0L and will feel as a 1L. All in all the book is a really quick read and its information, while not going as in-depth as other books, was still great for someone who knew nothing at all.
I would put this book in the category of books that you buy because you're terrified of 1L and want to read everything you can get your hands on that might improve your chances of success.Would I read it again? Not really.Is it a decent book? Yes, it isn't bad by any means, but I can't point to anything that I felt improved my understanding of law school or improved by ability to do well on exams.
gave an account of the 1st year of college.. but it is an old copyright. This book focuses on the socratic method. I am going to attend a college that has a more realistic approach.However it was good, gave me a lot of information. I now understand what i didn't. I was hoping it would have scared me to not do this ... what am i crazy? (grin) ...I'm going for it, i think ... buy it used ... if you do. And it was beneficial.
