About the Author
Martin Rose was director of the British Council in Morocco until 2014, traveled widely, and wrote regularly about the country in his blog Mercurius Maghrebensis. His British Council career also took him to Baghdad, Rome, Brussels, and Ottawa, and he is now retired to Saffron Walden in Essex. He is a visiting fellow at the Alwaleed bin Talal Centre for Islamic Studies at the University of Cambridge.

This is a fascinating little book, a collection of travel impressions and notes by travel writers to Morocco from the late 1600's to the early 1900's. Taken from the writing of travelers such as American writer Edith Wharton, Budgett Meaken (editor of The Times of Morocco); Pierre Loti, a French navel officer and novelist and many others who visited Morocco's cities and wrote their impressions of the times. It was fascinating learning some of the early history of this exotic country!
