I feel like this book was a waste of money, and I keep picking it up to read, therefore it's also a waste of time. I wanted to get at least one or two tips from the 150 the author claims to provide to us. Unless you have been living under a rock, none of this is great information. Buy a good pair of shoes, really? Duh.

This book is almost identical to The Everything New Nurse Book. Same author. Same content. Different title. Only buy one of these Quan books. The Everything New Nurse Book is a bit longer. Both are easy reads.

Planning to tour during the summer. It's a bit too early to plan at the moment but I saw this book in a promotion in a site. Got it in a really awesome deal! Anyways, I breezed through this book and realized that it's a beautiful place. I like how it comes with tips and recommendations like proper greeting etiquette and french phrases for emergencies which I loved because you'll never know when something wrong happens but it's better to be safe and sorry, right? At least people would be able to understand me. I hope the numbers given in this book are active because I'm planning to give them a dial later on and inquire. The itineraries given are well planned and I would consider following through them.I'm really disappointed with the quality of the picture though which is why I'd give this four stars instead of five. I would personally preferred it enlarged and placed in the center. A picture or two about the scenery can really help persuade the person to visit the place. Other than that this book has great information in it especially if you're like me who's planning to take a trip there. I'm really happy to see that the author has other books too! Will probably get two or more and add it to my list of "to go to" for this Summer!

If you have ever had a teacher who made a lifelong difference in your child you might understand my love for Debbie Sims. She was my daughter's kindergarten teacher and I have never even heard of a kindergarten teacher who handled her class so wisely, innovatively and covered the basics so well. When I heard that her husband wrote a book, I had to buy it, if only to support the man she loved. Wow, Now I know why she loves him (and he her.) He went to a small nation on a Fulbright scholarship and rather than using it to improve his own credentials back home, he spent every day trying to be a good ambassador for the USA and Texas. His efforts did not always cross cultures well and the humor was always on himself, never making anyone else the butt of his jokes. He worked at this every day and the Latvians watched with jaws dropped until they figured out that he was real and then they entered into his world as he entered into theirs. I laughed so often and came to love this fine, fine man. He missed his wife terribly and she missed him. He may just be fine enough to deserve her.

You get to follow an interesting Texan through roughly six months visiting an interesting country. One encounters unfamiliar culture, humorous misunderstandings, and boundless goodwill. Expect to finish the book not only knowing the characters well, but liking them.If you enjoyed the James Herriott series of books---the series starting with ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL---then LATVIA MATTERS might be right for you.

We often talk about experiencing other cultures and sometimes do this on vacation - but spending an extended period in another country living, working and building relationships with people impacts your life in a way you cannot quite image. Dr. Sims’ book is an honest, heartfelt and humble look at his experience in Latvia. It is a great read!

Delightful quick read. Worthwhile and enjoyable even if you have no special interest in Latvia. Never was such an admirable and lovable author. The adaptability, hard work, and perseverance in difficult circumstances shown by Dale Sims is America at its best and most characteristic.

A very touching and insightful memoir. I am going to Latvia in two weeks and read the book as preparation for understanding the cultural differences that I may encounter. The author's engaging style and enthusiasm for his subject made it an enjoyable and informative read.

The book is a very nice read and quite humorous. Dr. Sims makes you realize that we all leave some kind of an impression when we visit other countries. He went a long way to try and remove the "ugly American" image that Latvia and so many other countries have about those of us from the USA.

A perfectly delightful book written by a DBU colleague. I could not put it down until it was finished. Dale took me to laughter and tears.

I bought this book thinking it would give me a feel for Basque Spain. Having traveled extensively in Spain I am always looking for accounts of the experiences of others. This "book" (and I guess your have to call it a book due to the number of pages)is nothing more than a multi-page greeting card. There is nothing here but the author's incoherant ramblings and her idea of "art".Don't waste your time - or money. Why do publishers print this stuff? I would give zero stars if I could.

About the Author

Brian Hahn was a professor in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Cape Town. In his career, Brian wrote more than 10 books for teaching programming languages to beginners.Daniel T. Valentine is Professor Emeritus and was Professor and Chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering, Clarkson University, Potsdam, New York. There is good potential in this book but it is really in need of a good editor. The guards change race in three consecutive paragraphs, and soon after a nurse switches gender four times. (I don't think gender fluidity was the point).There are lots of plot holes, parts where the story has obviously been edited to change and several occasions where I just had to keep reading to infer what was happening.There's a good premise here, and moments of polished writing, but it really does need a lot of work. On the upside, I didn't notice any spelling mistakes!

The book wasn't quite what I expected from the title but I absolutely loved it. I really hope there will be more books. I expect a series. When will the next book come out. I want to know how the Kylen and Earth 🌎 people will interact and I dearly hope there will be no other brides for this Kylen prince. In fact I dearly hope that the next book in this series or at least the one after that will reveal that no sharing was intended but that somehow royals never share or some such thing and that the people from earth were wrong in their expectations. Are there other books already out? I hope so! I kind of assumed so after reading that little expert of the next book or future book. If not when is it coming out? I really love your writing style you had me guessing to the last page and by my questions you can tell I'm still guessing. I usually don't get that in a romance book of this kind and I absolutely love it A great read! Well written! 😎😇🙋 It truly has you thinking about possible relationship between the two people and what happens next. I actually read it in one day and while it was not a big book and therefore easy to do I really want more and I want it now.

Starting with the cover. Pretty model but I had ideas of a bit more rough around the edges girl. There is quite a bit of background information so if this turns into a series it could be great. I felt the ending wasn't complete. I would read the next book if There is to be one based on what I have by this Author previously.

I enjoyed this book. The characters were interesting and the story line was good. I couldn’t put this book down until I finished it.

Jamie is from Earth but works on the Space Port and speaks many different alien languages. But, she works doing something else that she does not particularly enjoy. Kylen’s is an alien race that is trying to get more ships to the Space Port but has been denied many times. Jamie figures out what the problem is – a language barrier. She meets Prince Argath and he is taken by her ability to speak all the dialects of his world. Those of Earth descent make her go with the Kylen’s because she lied on her application. She is deathly afraid! The General of the Kylen’s puts her in a room that makes her very weak and incapacitated thinking to question her and believing she is a spy.Prince Argath steps in when he realizes the mistake made and offer her a chance to help his people. When they call his father to inform him of Argath’s plans, his father informs them that many ships are on the way to Earth to destroy the people. One of the citizens of Kylen has them believing false things about humans. So, it is up to Argath and Jaime to stop them. A debate is proposed between Jaime and the man who has Kylen’s convinced humans are ignorant and need to be destroyed! Who will win the debate? Will Earth and its inhabitants be destroyed? What will happen between Jaime and the Prince? Can they save both worlds? This book contains a few steamy scenes and is action-packed from the beginning. This story was unique in that it didn't just address negative racism (or in this case, specieism) where one species views the other as inferior, but also addresses well intentioned racism of exoticizing. Unlike the majority of the Kylen, prince Argath has access to information about the intelligence of humans that inspires him to want to start a collaboration between their species. When he learns of Jaime's self-taught knowledge of his complex language, he is enthralled by her, and enlists her to help with negotiations to access to the station where she works.Jaime gets mixed signals from Argath. She stats to feel an attraction to him, and senses he reciprocates, but these moments are interspersed with his rather disturbing treatment of her. She ends up being tortured on his ship, and subsequently berated and belittled in front of the medical staff. (Yeah, that's the way to convince your people that humans aren't worthless - by calling them worthless beings!) She goes along with him initially, feeling that's her best option. And she's so starved for affection that she's willing to accept what he's willing to give her.Argath's motives behind these actions are eventually revealed to her, but this is part of where his romanticising of her species comes in. He idolizes her and humanity as a whole, but it is in a way that dehumanizes them and takes away their individual agency. He has his own agenda, and never consults Jaime on her willingness to go along with it. He makes major decisions for her, both in her presence and not, and it never ONCE occurs to him to ask her if she's willing. He's so focused on what he wants, and has idealized her to the point where she's more of a precious stone than a human with wants and fears.His poor treatment of her is not explained to her until after the fact - indeed, very little is explained to her until after the fact. He just assumes she will be pleased to go along with his will as any shiny precious object would be. This causes her a considerable degree of trauma and emotional anguish. He puts her and her species as a whole, on a pedestal, stripping them of their individuality and uniqueness. There is no doubt he loves her, but it is a love that would have to be deconstructed before it could be fully realized.The action keeps the reader invested, we feel Jaime's emotional confusion and hopelessness. She goes through rage, sadness, hopefulness, hopelessness, fear, and more, and the reader is with her the entire way. The ending was the only weak spot, as it felt as though something new was building, but wasn't quite reached. I'm hoping this story continues!
