Daniel Wildenstein (1917-2001) was an art historian and member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts (Paris). From 1939 onwards, he was Director of the Wildenstein Galleries of New York, London and Tokyo. He edited several international journals, e.g. the magazine Arts from 1956-1962 and the Gazette des Beaux-Arts after 1963. He co-founded the Fondation Wildenstein in 1970 (it was renamed the Wildenstein Institute in 1984), and was a prime mover in many exhibitions of international repute. Daniel Wildenstein also edited the catalogues raisonnés of various 18th, 19th and 20th century artists. He was a world authority on Impressionism, and published catalogues of the works of Gauguin, Manet and Monet.

This is a new edition which is a very small book. The photos of the paintings are decent quality but are VERY SMALL. I returned this book and sought out the earlier coffee table size edition which is large and you can actually enjoy Monet's paintings.

This is a biography of his life with a lot of pictures, but not a lot of art criticism. You can learn when a picture was painted, where it was painted, how much it sold for, who it sold to, where it was sold, whether Monet had a good year that year, and so on, but very little about the impact of his art on his fellow painters, on the movement, and on Modern art. Somewhat disappointing.

This was a holiday gift for a dear neighbor who loves Impressionist art as much as I do. After presentation, I had a chance to review it, and it is truly a magnificent presentation of the work of a great painter.I would recommend this book for any art lover.

Much smaller than I thought it would be (especially since they increased the price by $4). Its smaller than a hardcover novel & the text is pretty small.

I bought this as a gift for an amateur artist. She and I were both impressed by the depth of detail and the huge wealth of gorgeous color pictures of Monet's work. This is a wonderful read for anyone who enjoys biographies or art.

Gorgeous things come in smaller packages. This book is about seven long and five inches wide. The pages are super good quality and even though the photos are not coffee tabled size, they are excellent quality and all in color. Also the editors did a marvelous job with the biography of the artist.

This is a much smaller-format reprint of the first volume of a much larger (and more expensive) 1996 edition. Consequently, the size of the illustrations is significantly reduced and the printed text is miniscule. Nevertheless, this is still a beautiful and quite affordable edition and a must-have for Monet fans.The color plates are copious and expertly reproduced. The volume is also a painstakingly researched biography, thereby doubling its value. I recommend it highly with the caveat about the book's size. At only 8 x 6 inches, it might have given me pause before I purchased it, but as it is, I'm glad I didn't hesitate. Highly recommended.

I really liked the "try this, try this, here's another idea, try this" approach in this book. I was only reading a few minutes when I had a lightbulb moment, put the book down and immediately went to my closet to implement one of the author's strategies and was able to finally let go of something that I had struggled to discard! Instead of suggesting a "one size fits all" step-by-step philosophy, this books offers lots of small, short tips to help you think through decisions about letting go. There are also sections on these topics: Make choices, Create order, Know Yourself, Cultivate Helpful habits, and Add beauty. I definitely recommend.

I read this book in a couple of hours today. It is on a topic very familiar to me, as I consider myself a (not strict) minimalist. It would have been extremely helpful to me about two years ago! It was a fun read.The book is primarily a collection of ideas to reduce physical clutter. If you are hoping to declutter, reading this book is a no-brainer. If you want your clutter to stay the way it is, you may not enjoy this book! If you are already a minimalist, you have read most of these ideas before.To address the two criticisms of the Amazon reviews thus far:1) This is not a novel or structured like Ms. Rubin’s previous books. It is arranged so that one may read straight through (as I have done) or select pages to read here and there. The personal anecdotes so common in her “happier” books are not as pervasive here.2) It’s unfortunate that a few reviewers’ copies arrived dirty/damaged, but this is not a true criticism of the book. Amazon would send a free replacement if asked, I would think.

Both Marie Kondo and Gretchen Rubin agree that the ultimate goal is happiness! Personally, I like Marie Kondo’s “spark joy” concept, but I feel like part of the instructions are missing. (The KonMari method seems to be easier to implement on "Tidying Up," where the families can ask Marie Kondo questions to fill in the blanks!) "Outer Order, Inner Calm" diagnoses many of my ongoing clutter problems and gives concrete solutions. That pile of “not clean, but not dirty” clothes on the bedroom chair – put up a hook!I’d recommend "Outer Order, Inner Calm" to you if you like Marie Kondo but need more concrete and varied ideas on how to declutter, if other people rely on you to keep your home organized, if you want to declutter efficiently, or if you’re the type of person who needs an individual cleaning method.

I was expecting another book in Gretchen Rubin's chatty style on how to live a happier, and in this case, less cluttered life. Instead, this is bullet-point-style general info on decluttering. Marie Kondo does a better job of that. I'm returning it.

I love Gretchen Rubin and have all of her books. I thought I was getting a novel type of book but instead got snippets of calendar of the day wisdom for decluttering. It is a beautiful looking book but feel like it is nothing new and I got the cliff notes version and was hoping for actual content.

The writing of Rubin’s ideas & thoughts are well organized & easy to read, thus making it an enjoyable read. The material is accessible & I am motivated to apply Rubin’s ideas easily into my life! Not to mention the cover itself brings inner calm.

Love this book. Lots of good ideas and strategies. Funny, i already do some. This validates me. It has really opened my eyes to messes and clutter. The do it now is the best one. Thats the best time to do anything! Great work Gretchen. Very informative. Great read.

Received my copy earlier today, and for a new book, it sure looks beat up. The cover is a bit dirty, and the bottom corners/edges are warped and worn. Pretty disappointing. I do not think it is worth the time and effort to return it, though. Just expected the product itself to be in better shape. On the brighter side, I am looking forward to reading its contents (I have read and enjoyed Gretchen’s other works, and appreciate her insight.).

I loved this book. I will be honest. Before I opened this book, I already had it in my head that it was going to be boring. But I had read Shawn's other books so I figured I could power through it. However, to my great surprise, the book drew me in immediately and I ended up finishing it less than 24 his after I started.I think the reason for this is because Shawn doesn't just talk about where he started and where he ended each day. He is a master storyteller and knows how to weave in anecdotes that complement the story he is trying to tell. There were a few times I laughed out loud as I was reading.I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a good story. You won't regret it.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. However I choose to support all my favorite authors by purchasing a copy. For all the wonderful hours of entertainment they give to me.Shawn writes with a touch of humor and a gift not many share. As usual, he has another hit.Having traveled the Al-Can Highway in 2002, he brought back memories I'd forgotten, and shared new things that were not yet thought of on our journey there.You will enjoy pictures of the stunning beauty of the great state of Alaska, as well as British Columbia, Canada and the Yukon Territory. Ride along, the adventure begins here.Share in the venture of seeing majestic mountains, wild, wide open spaces, awesome creations, and beautiful animals.This book was written from a personal point of view. With thoughts, feelings and insights. I loved reading about the people he met. The places he saw, where only a 4 x 4 could go. He opened my mind, I could picture being there, seeing what he saw.I can honestly say there isn't anything I didn't like about this book. At times I felt I was spying on the author's personal life. That gave it a real human touch.The pictures alone tell a story. Pick this up and ride with Shawn on your own adventure. It will make you want to start packing your bags and plan your own adventure on the great Al-Can highway.

Shawn's wife, Dawn, got lucky this time. She got to stay home. This is an entertaining read, and of course, Shawn takes us to places that are of questionable interest to the rest of the world, but it does open our eyes to the things that we might drive by every day and pay no attention to. I've been to Alaska many, many times, and did not have the opportunity to see any of the things that Shawn saw on this trip. Excellent to see them through his eyes and pictures. Interesting what happens when you stop and smell the graveyards. The two bonus memoirs are great as well!

Another great book from Shawn Inmon. When writing this book as he did with "A Lap Around America" you really feel like you are sitting in the car enjoying the trip.I also enjoyed hearing his reflections on his past trips to Alaska and how he sees it now.Shawn is a great writer, but I think he is at his best when writing non-fiction.With all the pictures, which I loved, there wasn't space for a map but that would have been nice to see his "lap" on a map.Read this if you want to know about the "non-commercial" Alaska, you get to read about parts of Alaska and Canada you probably won't see on the Travel Channel but you should

Shawn’s writing style flows easily and he has a remarkable charm and likability. The book takes the reader to many places that a travel guide might not, and it evokes a feeling of connection to the places that you couldn’t find anywhere else. This book includes a pair of short memoirs that I enjoyed even more than the main travelogue itself.I wish I could give this book a perfect review, but it falls just short of perfection for me on a couple points. First, the length. Even with taking my time, I was finished in just 3 nights. A dedicated reader could probably finish this book cover to cover in a day. Though Shawn’s writing style is remarkably easy to read, it left me a bit hungry for more details. Just as the reader lands on a location like an abandoned amusement park or the signpost forest, his story whisks away to the next stop.Secondly, a minor point, I’d recommend buying this book’s kindle version. Though I prefer to hold a physical book in my hands, given the length of this book and the lack of color photos, I think I might have preferred to have the less expensive version with clearer color photos.

4.5 but I gave it 5 since I love his friendly and accessible writing style. I missed Dawn traveling with him although this was definitely a guy's trip. It was a very quick read so I appreciated the additional stories at the end.I enjoyed his trip down memory lane about the summer he grew pot with his brother LOL. I've always wanted to visit Alaska and felt that this travel guide gave a lot of good information and suggestions. I also appreciate that he endeavors to stay in non corporate lodging when available and likes to go to older and interesting hotels off the beaten track. I could feel how tired he was at the end of the journey but I'm ready to go again where ever the next Lap Around book takes us!

I enjoyed reading "A Lap Around America" so much that I had to jump from that right in to "A Lap Around Alaska". I "followed" the author on his journey using Google Maps, which was fun. It was interesting to see where he started his trip each day and where he ended for the night. I am still trying to figure out how he left Dease Lake, BC on Day 20 and arrived home in Seaview, WA, on Day 21...a distance of approximately 1322 miles. I know Shawn also writes time travel novels...maybe he knows how time travel actually works! HA! In any event, thank you, Shawn, for two great reads. I look forward to future adventures with you and Dawn. I'll wave next time I make it to the Long Beach Peninsula!

I mean this is book 3, so by this point I have to assume that most readers already know what we’re getting into with Bushido Online. All your favorite characters are back and the mystery drama and politics are still there in full force. As the title suggests this time around we spend most of our time in the wargames portion of Bushido Online, which is nice considering that we’ve been hearing about this part of the game more or less nonstop for the last couple of books and really only got a glimpse of what it would look like at the end of book to.My one issue with the book is that unlike in books 1 and 2 we spend very little time dealing with The realities and emotions that make this world so attractive to our main character. Those elements are there, but I feel like they are minimized in favor of the virtual world’s excitement and intrigue and for me this is a little disappointing. Lit RPG novels that focus on the game and the characters are a dime a dozen, ones that focus on the psychology of the gamer and give us good reasons why the game is more attractive than real life are rarer. So when I found that Bushido Online not only did this but did it very well, I was thrilled and I knew I had found something special.Still, the characters are entertaining and fun to spend 600+ pages with, the world is fleshed out, the game is something I think we’d all very much like to play, and it’s exciting. I very much enjoyed my third trip back to this world and can’t wait to come back again whenever book 4 is released.

Read this novel in one day and wished it wouldn’t end. Great editing and challenging plot. Now I have to wait for the next book. Probably the best litrpg series written by English speaking author (sorry Aleron Kong) Definitely worthy of reading.

The Ronin and his crew are back for more adventures and new mysteries to solve.The new War Games make for interesting adventures where the players have to work together and I'm looking forward to see how the author uses them in the story.The new mystery answers some questions and adds a bunch more.Great story looking forward to the next one.

This was a great third book. I can't wait for a fourth. However like the last book the author could stop here. The MC is in a much better place. However the action in the game is really getting exciting.

Good book and the game elements are integrated smoothly with the world. It feels like it could be just an ordinary adventure until the level up happens.

This book has it's "suspend belief' moments, and cliche main character unique mindset leads to OP moments... but I still love it. Seiki is a character I love to root for, and it was very satisfying seeing him utilising his MMA background into his fighting style as well as coming to terms s his life. The worst part for me Is the long wait for the next book. (≧∇≦)

More character development and the world keeps getting more complicated. Excellent

I saw this book in a store for a really expensive price and it was in all English, so I was really happy to have found the same book here on Amazon for less and in a bilingual version! The text is in both English and Japanese so it looks really cool!The book is pretty thick and the quality of it is amazing. The paper is thick and smells pretty darn good. I love that fresh book smell! The pictures are crystal clear and they're so colorful!Moving onto the actual content of the book... I read this book during the day and with other people around me, I refuse to open it at night! The book contains pictures of actual artwork from the Yokai Museum in Japan. The artwork are from early periods, so they aren't modern or anything, they are traditional. They reminded me of the enemies and artwork from the videogame Okami (which is the reason why I wanted this book so bad). The artwork have stories and descriptions and some of them are very creepy! There are many different yokai in this book and I was downright terrified by some of them (like a floating head, yikes!)

All of these works come from the vast collection of Yumoto Koichi — yokai researcher, professor, and former curatorial director of the Kawasaki City Museum. The Yumoto Koichi collection is the world’s largest collection of yokai-related art, and while Yokai Museum doesn’t come close to covering the 3,000 items in the Yumoto Koichi collection, it does cover an impressive selection of more than 161 pieces, detailed in high quality full color photos. The 288 page book is bilingual, featuring English translations side-by-side with the Japanese text, making it doubly useful as a language study tool for anyone looking to practice their Japanese (or English, for that matter). The descriptions are written with people who are not intimately familiar with yokai in mind, so they don’t require much foreknowledge to enjoy (and it is primarily a picture book, with only small written parts, like the tags you would see at a museum on the wall next to a piece).Yokai Museum is divided into six chapters covering various formats of yokai art that appeared over time: picture scrolls, books, woodblock prints, games, everyday items, and religious items. Chapter 1: Picture Scrolls – A Cast of Colorful Yokai begins with the oldest known piece of true yokai art: the Hyakki Yagyō Emaki scroll attributed to Tosa Mitsunobu. Chapter 5: Yokai Lurking in Everyday Life contains pictures of everyday items including kimono, obi, and other clothes, dishes, bottles, netsuke, even knife handles and sword guards. Chapter 6: Yokai and Prayer features a large number of votive cards that feature illustrations of various yokai on them. There are also works of art with religious significance which once belonged to various temples.I was surprised at just how pervasive the yokai influence actually got to be. While I have long been a fan of the old prints and paintings from the Edo period, this was the first time I had ever seen yokai-themed kimonos, and that just blew me away! And while I had seen yokai paintings, prints, and netsuke, before, the votive cards and toys that were created over a hundred years ago (and look like they could have been made today) were amazing.

This book is amazing. Lots of images. English text provided. Terrific for the artists library. It definitely could have been shipped with more protection. Cover came ripped - hence the low rating.

It’s a well written book for the novice such as myself. However, in some cases, the author assumes a certain level of knowledge, at which level I’m not. What keeps me from rating it a 5 is a couple of footnotes defining some terms. Nevertheless, I am learning and enjoying it.

Material is invaluable, the edition not so great but anyway... I imagined fully bright and colourful pages showing graphs and charts with tips, specially by it's price. Looks more like a photocopy set of a rough script. But I repeat the content is what matters.

It's an essential book, but I don't find it specially bright enough in some aspects that Owsinski touches, i.e. the arrangement, he states his personal view and seems to differ from serious books speaking about structure and arrangement. It's good if you start from scratch to get to know basic stuff about type of reverbs, how a compressor/gate works, which are the basic 6 elements of a good mix, or the history of mixing, studios, etc.Specially oriented for the classic mixing engineer. If you are a modern mixing aspirant for styles like electronic music or hip hop you will find it too old dated in techniques. Although, the info shared in this book is basic and important but not essential in my opinion. It's good to start from the bottom if you like that way to do the things, but if you practically want to learn directly the technical stuff, I know much better options to read. Buy this book if you want to know about classic engineer's and a bit of history of all since half of the book are interviews. I would read it again if you ask me, but I know there could be a much better and complete book in the field, cutting some information and adding practical and modern techniques.

A few months ago, I thought mixing was mostly a matter of adjusting volume levels on each instrument or vocal. After recording a couple of my songs, I quickly realized that there's way more to it. I'm slowly learning....the mixes are getting better...and this book has been a huge help.

Fantastic resource, part 2 is AWESOME hearing from the best mixing engineers in history. The real guys who did the Beatles, Stones, Floyd, Elton John, MJ, Steely Dan... the list goes on. Filled with gems. Can't wait to read his book on mastering now!

There are so many authors, blogs, videos etc. on mixing out there. Sometimes the different suggestions you get are confusing or contradictory to each other. I have decided to follow one line of advice from now on, i.e. Bobbby Owsinski, his books and his online courses. Bobby has been an author in this field for many years and to me seems to be the most experienced.

Very well presented. Strait up about mixing the right way.
