This is one of my favorite books to gift my friends and to aspiring young professionals I mentor /coach within and outside Cisco.
I wished had I bought this book sooner, I finally understood why I keep making the same mistake and now I'm on my way to better manage my career. Thanks, Jeanne.
I found this book to be an immensely insightful guide to a successful career and successful life. Jeanne's own insight bolstered with tie ins to progressive thinkers help one to examine their own level of self-awareness much more deeply than a practical guide. And with that self awareness, the ability to develop a more meaningful path forward. For me it was just the write book at the right time as I decide my next chapter. I am buying this book for my kids as well. Great read!!!!!
A book for everyone who wants to build a rewarding career
Best book I have read this year. Thoroughly recommend!
This book is great for gaining motivation and guidance on how to run a successful career. I'm a Senior Network Architect and the networking industry is changing very rapidly right now. It's important to stay positive and stay ahead of the curve. Following Jeanne's advice it's possible to create a strategy to always be positive and learning and to spend energy on things that you can affect. There is no point in spending energy on things that you can not affect.Jeanne gives great insight on how to run successful projects by creating win-win situations. It's important to consider the viewpoint of all the key stake holders and to do both inside-out and outside-in thinking. This book is a must read for anyone that wants to have a great career or improve on an already great career.
Among the many good reasons to read Jeanne Beliveau-Dunn's "I'm the Boss of Me," there is one that really stands out for me. The author clearly articulates the importance of choosing an operating model based on love, rather than one based on fear. Since she has crafted a wildly successful career in a tough, volatile industry, and transformed her personal challenges into a fulfilling life, her guidance is more than just stardust and rainbows. She is making an indisputable case for bringing the best of ourselves into our work - our passion, our emotional intelligence, our humanity, and our concern for others as well as our intelligence, skill and courage. Highly recommended.
As I read this book, I really found myself doing a lot of self-discovery along the way. As a 46-year old engineer, I've been fortunate to have had a wide range of experiences in my career, both good and bad. At times, I've caught myself on auto-pilot just going through the motions (admit it, you've been there). What I personally found valuable about this publication is how it presents a framework within which the author leads you on a productive trip of positive self development.Who are you? Where do you want to go? How are you going to get there? How do you identify career pitfalls? What is your personal brand? How do you choose supportive mentors in my "bench"? How do you develop the soft skills necessary to be successful? The author shares her proven strategies for addressing all of these questions while sharing many of her personal experiences along the way. It's a light read that I believe everyone can find benefit within. Personally, as I face my own midlife (crisis), I feel a greater sense of clarity now about who I am and where I am going. Jeanne Beliveau-Dunn's career-building lessons are a useful addition to anyone's toolbox.Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book to review as part of the Informit Reviewer Program.
